Gland Ultrasounds

Medical Record Analysis

Endocrine & Exocrine System

A gland is an organ which produces and releases substances that perform a specific function in the body. Glands can be part of the endocrine system which creates and releases hormones into the bloodstream, or the exocrine system which produce substances such as saliva, tears, sweat, milk or digestive juices.

Ultrasounds are commonly performed on the thyroid, lymphatic nodes, saliva glands, and mammary glands.

The Procedure

The sonographer will ask the patient to lie on the exam table with the area of interest exposed. A water-based gel will be used with a wand to glide over several areas of the interest.
