What is an Ultrasound?

Ultrasound refers to the type of wavelength used to pictures of the inside of the body. Ultrasonography is a diagnostic technique used to help identify the structure and flow of fluids inside of one's body.


Does an Ultrasound hurt?

It is non-invasive procedure and usually does not hurt.


How long does an Ultrasound take?

Usually between 25 and 45 minutes per study.


Does an Ultrasound produce radiation?

No, Ultrasounds uses high-frequency sound waves to produce an image.

What can be imaged with an Ultrasound?

The heart, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, bladder, uterus, ovaries, thyroid, scrotum, pregnancies and many other regions of the body can be imaged. Air-filled organs like the lungs are not ideal for ultrasound, but it may be used to detect fluid around or within the lungs. Similarly, ultrasound cannot penetrate bone, but can be used to image fractures or infection surrounding the bone.


What is the average cost of an Ultrasound?

Ultrasounds can range between $150 to $400 depending on the type of ultrasound and area of interest.
